[Winnipeg, MB, Oct. 1, 2025] – The Extensionists is excited to share that it was honoured with an award at the Canadian Farmer Writers’ Federation (CFWF) annual banquet held in Winnipeg, MB on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025. The Extensionists took home bronze in the electronic media – audio category (The Tom Leach Award).
“Jay Whetter, the whole Extensionists production crew, and I wholeheartedly believe/hope that our conversations with researchers, academics, and big thinkers play a role in bridging the agricultural extension gap facing the industry,” says Toban Dyck, The Extensionists co-host and principal at Burr Forest Group. “This recognition is encouraging, motivating, and validating. We’re very thankful for it.”
The annual CFWF ceremony recognizes excellence across 14 award categories, with gold, silver, and bronze honours determined by a distinguished panel of 17 judges representing diverse backgrounds in journalism, agriculture, and communications from across Canada and the United States. Burr Forest Group also received bronze for its Cluster 4 extension work and gold for landscape photography
The CFWF serves the common interests of agricultural journalists, including reporters, editors and broadcasters, as well as those in business and government whose primary responsibility is agricultural communications.
The Extensionists is gearing up for its second season which will launch on Oct. 7, 2025 with an insightful interview with communications expert Jolanda Jensen from the Netherlands. Other guests this season include Rupp Carriveau from the University of Windsor, Bioindustrial Innovation Canada’s Executive Director Meaghan Seagrave, Sabrina Perić from the University of Calgary, and mental health advocate Gerry Friesen.
